I was giggling like a little girl at the end when Chief walked out. I don't think this thing was particularly good as a game but it absolutely did it's job at selling me on a Halo VR game. Also I'm assuming this was intentional but the enemy models seemed huge! I thought at first that the scale was just off in general but Chief seemed about the right side at the end. I've had a Rift/Vive since launch so I've played a bazillion shooting games. I think the main problem is that they showed these amazingly detailed 3d models of the enemies and then immediately had you shooting 2d target cutouts. See for me it felt like it was in my forearm, as did the hands themselves. While dissapointed in the Halo Recruit game, I didn't hate it and it's probably getting way to much citicism for what it really is. If Microsoft wants to go toe to toe with PSVR in terms of market share, a full Halo VR game would go a long way in doing that (pretty cool if they released WMR for Xbox one X too). My point is, you can do "free" demo's or experiences at a very high level and sadly Halo did not reach that level where as the Last Guardian proved this can be done. The Last Guardian is a beautiful, almost emotional experience with top of the line graphics and easy play mechanics that draw you into the brief experience making you feel a part of the game. Because it's a free experience, it's hard to complain, but owning a PSVR I recently got the chance to play a free experience promoting the "The Last Guardian". Halo is an iconic video game brand and frankly deserved something a little better. I now rate this up there close to Skyrim for my most anticipated VR games.Ī full Halo game has not been confirmed but I saw a clip of the CEO of 343 Industries talking in Altspace about Halo and she seem to indicate they were working on a full game. If the full game feels this solid and polished it should be a killer of a game. Just focus on gunplay and not on the fact you’re only shooting targets on a 2D screen. Often holding and firing a gun in VR feels awkward and disconnected but not with this. The gunplay, as short as it, is the best I’ve felt in VR yet. Maybe it is because it is native or has so little going on that efficient programming was easy but I’m really impressed with how solid, smooth and accurate the mechanics are. It is not a game, it is a 10 minute tease to whet our appetites about the possibility of a full Halo VR game and in this respect it hits the mark. To judge it as a game is missing the point. I decided to give it a spin last night and my take on this app is completely different. After seeing several VR talking heads dump all over it, I had never bothered to download Halo Recruit.
